Mycelium Coasters

Mycelium, as a recently trendy sustainable material, has been largely experimented with replacing all kinds of furnitures and packagings. As a result, in exploration of my unique relationship between mycelium and my design process, I would like to explore how mycelium could also be made into delicate useful daily objects. Although I really appreciate the unique roughness impressions it creates, I want to explore how mycelium could create details for smaller objects. For the reasons of choosing to make coasters, I’m obsessed with tableware personally, especially cups and coasters. When considering what kind of delicate products I could make with mycelium, coasters came into my mind instantly. In addition to its sustainability, mycelium also possesses many great features like: antifire; insulation; water resistance; carbon-negative and can be naturally dyed any colour, which makes them the perfect materials to make coasters.
